History

The Jagdgeschwader 74 (Fighter Wing 74) was activated on May 5th, 1961 at Neuburg Airbase and was equipped with the F-86K Sabre. In the period from 1964 to 1966 the JG 74 re-equipped with the F-104G Starfighter.
On the 22nd of November 1973 Jagdgeschwader 74 received the title "Mölders" from General Günter Rall, chief of the Luftwaffe, the title was revoked again on March 8th 2005. In 1974 the Starfighter ware traded in for the F-4F Phantom II.

In the summer of 2006 the next aircraft, the Eurofighter Typhoon was introduced into the squadron, and on June 12th the last Phantom was flown out of Neuburg, making JG 74 the first squadron operational on the Eurofighter in Germany.

During a ceremony on March 18th, 2013, the 741 and 742 squadrons took over the Tiger spirit from the disbanded Full member 321 squadron. And so, the Bavarian Tigers where born. On October 1st, 2013 JG 74 was re-named Taktisches Luftwaffengeschwader 74 (TakLwG74).
